Reminder: Change your passwords

So yesterday my email account was disabled because Google thought there were some suspicious activity from it.  Needless to say, it was hacked into to which people started sending spam to those ... well I guess people in my contacts list.

Only some of those addresses, I don't even have in my address book, so I don't know how it was done/ accessed, etc.  Is it some sort of bot that does it and just scans for email addresses throughout my messages?

In any case, if you received 'A GIFT of FIFA' message from me, just delete it.

Just got off the phone with my credit card company to put a message on it, just in case.

And 8 months later ...

I've allowed myself to take this time to reflect on the past couple of months ... and it's slightly because I'm currently just recovering from pneumonia that landed me in Emergency early last week.  I have no clue how I got it, only to know that I was working a lot and not eating well as a result.

A part of me was crying to beautify myself because I had been shleping around in my sweats for almost 3 weeks.  The other part just wanted to get better and be comfortable. This got me thinking about the person I was years and years ago, who didn't put too much emphasis on her outer appearance thinking that my personality would ultimately shine through.  That the feminist in me would think that guys who only looked at the physical appearance of women were shallow and therefore not worth my time.

Boy, was I naive and stubborn.

I've come to realize, that now that I'm in my 30s, I really don't need to be all that angry, or feel like I have to change the world.  That the world we all live in has pockets and bubbles that I will never touch, not because I don't want to, but because they elude me or it's a fight that is not mine.

I was at an Asian American bloggers conference late last year.  My friends and I from 8Asians are clowns in comparison to some of the people who attended.  From our perspective, we like to be irreverent and have fun w. our articles and posts while others think we are 'Ineffectual Liberal Tools'.  Do we care? Not really because we have enough sense to discern whether something is trivial vs. serious.  We pick our battles. ... where was I going w/ this ... oh yeah ...

So one of the panelists remarked that she was a 'feminist'.  She was pretty angry and pissed off w. a great many things.  Myself, I was far too jet-lagged and tired to care, only to conclude that I am not like that (pissed off and angry) anymore.  The term feminist, however, carried a different definition in my book than in hers.  Her use of the term feminist was perhaps more in line w/ the political term from the 60s.  I still consider myself a feminist, however, it changed from political to domestic somewhere in my mid 20s because I came to terms w. one thing, "Guys are dumb."

And this is not me man-hating or anything, after all, I'm very heterosexual and check out guys all the time. It's just that guys simply "don't know" and therefore fail to understand.  And they will NEVER understand, just like how I will NEVER know what it's like to pee standing up.  And that's OK, I can accept that.  I remember explaining to a guy that we also don't like it when we're so moody during our menstrual cycle but that a certain amount of understanding is needed during that time.  I think he actually got it.

What I DO know is that I LIKE it when I've put a little effort into myself to look good and get compliments accordingly.  Does that make me shallow?  I don't think so.  I know I'm cute and intelligent, creative and fun.  I can hold my own in conversations ranging from the trivial to the intellectual.  It's not the inside that has changed, just its packaging to make it more attractive.

Being a feminist has nothing to do w. wanting to be a man, but to embrace ones femininity.

In other news ...

I have a T-shirt company now (www.NIWEstyle.com) and will be opening the online store *hopefully* at the end of the month.  For those who are still reading from long ago, would know I realtered and fixed up T-shirts as a hobby for years.  This would be the extension of that and I hope to be busy in the Spring/ Summer months as a result.  And yes, I did buy that serger.

As a result, I've surprised myself in my graphic designing skills.  Generally I would walk around w. a sketchpad, doodle and then scan and fix-up in Photoshop.  Now, my weapon of design is Illustrator, of which, I had to learn all on my own via a Quickstart Guide.  I suppose it's good in a way, because I have to think like a screenprinter, when designing.  I would imagine there is a certain amount of 'unlearning' one would have to do if they created graphics one way for so long. Layers, colour, halftones, etc.

My current Kpop obsession, After School, makes me happy to no end.  Watching them perform is a feat. not many can pull off.  They dance like a gangster army platoon, so sharp, crisp and precise.  Dubbed the Korean Pussycat Dolls, they can dance just as well as PCD, the difference being I don't feel so dirty watching them.

6 Months go by and ...

Was that really the last time I updated this blog?  Wow, does time just swosh away when life happens.  Let's have a rundown of the noteworthy events in the past 6 months, in no apparent order.

1. Got laid off in March, but briefly enjoyed the time wasted on EI before getting approved into a program that will train me to start and run my own business.  The Canadian government isn't perfect, but it certainly tries its best to make resources available for citizens during tough times.

2. Business in question is a T-shirt company ... more on that as it progresses.  Will now HAVE to buy that serger.

3. Congrats to MJ and Jason!  Welcome Amelia to this crazy world we call home.

4. Congrats to Annemarie and Jason!  It was such a beautiful wedding and thank you for making me a part of your special day!

5. Started DJing Monday Nights at SRadioClub ... formerly SoompiRadioClub.  Reminds me of the early days at banana ... when we really didn't care about money.

6. Starting to Twitter again and embrace my online whore once more.

7. Kpop fandom's current obsession for the past 5 months is After School.  They can dance like nobody's business, are tough as nails and sexy as hell.  Not only do I believe that if I pick a fight with them, I will get beat up - I probably would enjoy it.  Also, Chae Yeon is back!  Woot!

8. Playing Plants Vs Zombies will never be the same.  RIP Michael Jackson.

Checking in ...

Things to do in the new year ...

1. Learn Mandarin - even if it kills you
2. Gain steady employment - even if it kills you
3. Earn and save to buy a Serger sewing machine- even if it kills you
4. Put self on a severe budgetary diet of only $100/ month of recreational fun, allowance of $250/ season for clothes - stick to it, even if it kills you
5. Continue with T-shirt surgeries .... to maintain sanity from killing oneself

Friday, December 19, 2008 - Snowed-In Day

1. Learn Mandarin - surprisingly I actually got around to it and found out that I know much more than I thought I initially did.  Although the twice a week evening classes are killing my beauty sleep a bit, I'm very pleased with the rapid pace of which I'm picking up the language.  Course it also helps that I'm watching a really good Taiwanese drama called Fated to Love You.  Between the Mandarin and Taiwanese, I can actually watch a clip and know what they're saying. 加油!

2. Gain steady employment - well ... it's employment and fairly steady ... and it's slowly killing me a bit.

3. Serger sewing machine - between the Hollywood Bowl concert and the tuition fee for the Mandarin classes ... it can wait

4. Put self on budget - haha ... did I really say that and actually mean it? ... I must've been joking.

5. T-shirt surgeries - Woot Woot ... I've actually been able to come up with some nifty really sexy designs - now, if only I had a serger, the things that I could really do.
